EU/CARIFORUM SPS PROJECT

The EU/CARIFORUM Project seeks to improve the production and trade in regional agricultural products which meet international standards while protecting plant, animal and human health and the environment.

This project is being implemented by IICA in collaboration with the CARICOM Secretariat and CARDI. It is being funded by the European Union under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).

The Three (3) main components of the project are summarized below:

LEGISLATION

  • Plant Protection and Animal Health Legislation
  • Model Food Safety Legislation
  • Model Fisheries SPS and related Legislation
  • Relevant Protocols, Standards, Guidelines and accompanying Model regulations

COORDINATION MECHANISMS

  • Support for NAHFSA
  • Support for CAHFSA

CAPACITY BUILDING

This component addresses capacity building for both the public and  private sector in areas such as Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Risk Analysis.
