Plant Health
To be competitive in regional and international trade, Member States are required to demonstrate compliance with a number of well-established standards including those of plant health. As a result, a harmonized regional Plant Health Strategy is an imperative. The region must establish a coordinated strategic approach to plant health including contingency planning to ensure that measures are in place to combat disease outbreaks.
The establishment of CAHFSA as a regional body will facilitate a well-organized and coordinated plant health system for the region aimed at increasing expansion in regional and extra regional trade and preventing phytosanitary vulnerability due to the risk of introducing pests and diseases.
