The inaugural CARICOM Committee of Chief Veterinary Officers (CCCVO) Silver Jubilee Awards were developed to honour veterinarians across the region who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, long-standing service, and remarkable contributions to agri-food safety, animal health, and related fields at both regional and international levels. These prestigious awards—CARICOM CVO Stalwart, National Veterinary Stalwart, and Veterinary Research and Education—celebrated three individuals whose work has significantly advanced veterinary medicine and public health while fostering innovation and excellence within the profession.
SILVER JUBILEE AWARDS CRITERIA
National Veterinary Stalwart Service – must be registered as a veterinarian in Trinidad and Tobago with outstanding contribution to animal health in Trinidad and Tobago.
Veterinary Education and Research – must have served or currently serve as academia in a school of veterinary medicine in a CARICOM member state.
CARICOM Veterinary Stalwart - must have served or currently serve as CVO of a CARICOM country for a minimum of fifteen (15) years.
- Demonstration of Professional Excellence – project and policies successfully implemented in Trinidad and Tobago
- Demonstration of collaboration and impact – leadership positions held on national committees or organizations (E.g. Trinidad and Tobago Veterinary Association, Trinidad and Tobago Society for Protection Against Cruelty to Animals)
- Demonstration of regional collaboration and impact – leadership positions held on regional committees or organizations (E.g. CCCVO, CaribVET, Caribbean Veterinary Medical Association (CbVMA), World Organization of Animal Health)
- Demonstration of collaboration and advocacy – partnership and collaboration with public, private and academic institutions
- Demonstration of ethics and integrity – adherence to professional standards, transparency, and commitment to high standards of practice in veterinary medicine
Nominations were rigorously assessed and a selection was made by a regional nomination committee composed of representatives of CARICOM, CbVMA, CCCVO, Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA) and Academia. The winner of the award was announced at the CARICOM Committee of Chief Veterinary Officers Silver Jubilee Gala on March 25, 2025.
We congratulate Dr. Karla Georges recipient of the National Veterinary Stalwart Award; Prof. Abiodun Adesiyun recipient of the Research and Veterinary Education Award and Dr. Mark Trottman recipient of the CARICOM CVO Stalwart Award. At the Committee of CARICOM Chief Veterinary Officers Silver Jubilee Awards Gala held at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad on March 25, 2025.
