CAHFSA is mandated to perform a coordinating and organizing role for the establishment of an effective and efficient regional sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) regime and to execute on behalf of Member States such SPS actions and activities that can be more effectively and efficiently executed through a regional mechanism.
The following Agreement gives force to CAHFSA:
- Revised Agreement Establishing the Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA): February 25, 2011;
- Revised Treaty of Chagaramas (Articles 57 and 74).
International Day of Plant Health 2023
The Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency calls on all countries in the Caribbean region to join in celebrating the International Day of Plant Health 2023 on 12th May under the theme “ Plant Health for Environmental Protection”.
The United Nations designated the 12th May to raise global awareness on how protecting the health of plants can provide safe food to eat, end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment.
Plant Life is essential to our wellbeing as plants make up 80 percent of the food we eat and 98 percent of the oxygen we need to breathe.
